The Limassol Athletic Union expresses its satisfaction with the decision of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Football Federation to proceed with substantial changes in the way the judicial and disciplinary bodies of the Federation operate, by replacing the institution of the Sports Judge and the Disciplinary Prosecutor with collective, three-member bodies.<\/p>\n\n
This specific development constitutes an important admission that the existing system was sick and needed substantial changes and reforms. This is a position that AEL has consistently, documented and determinedly formulated in recent years, repeatedly highlighting the serious weaknesses, the uneven application of the regulations and the decisions that have shaken the sense of justice and the trust of fans in the institutions of Cypriot football. AEL never hesitated to clash with established perceptions and practices when it found that the principles of justice were being violated. This is what the history, principles and ideals of our Association dictate.<\/p>\n\n
At the same time, there were those who chose silence in the face of the system's pathologies, either because they were served by it or because they did not wish to disrupt the balance. AEL, on the contrary, never negotiated its principles. She remained steadfast in her positions, even when she found herself alone demanding the obvious, a football in which everyone would be judged by the same rules.<\/p>\n\n
Changing the structure is only the first step. The success or failure of the reform will be judged by the individuals who will be called upon to staff the new committees. For this reason, AEL clarifies that it will not accept, under any circumstances, the possible participation of Mr. Vryonidis and\/or Mr. Nikolaou to any of the new committees, in case there are any thoughts about their appointment. The credibility of the new institutions cannot be built by recycling individuals who have been associated with a period that caused intense doubt and shook the trust of a large part of the sports world and the clubs.<\/p>\n\n
AEL's position is clear and non-negotiable. The renewal of institutions cannot be limited to changes in the structure and name of the institutions. It requires substantial renewal, with individuals of recognized prestige, independence and integrity, who enjoy the trust and broad acceptance of all associations. Only in this way will it be ensured that the new institutions will operate with objectivity, consistency and transparency. The real success of the reform will be judged by the decisions that will follow and, above all, by the people who will be called upon to serve it.<\/p>\n\n
AEL will continue to closely monitor developments and intervene institutionally where necessary. We have never asked for special treatment and we will not do so in the future. We will continue, however, to claim with the same determination what the history, principles and values \u200b\u200bof our Association impose.<\/p>\n\n
